OCTOBER REPORT

The Twentymans Funeral Services Whangamata Club Indoor Bowls adjunct October tournament was held on Saturday 12 October. 24 teams entered the tournament, played over 5 rounds with the winners decided by game wins, ends won and points scored.
​
The winners on the day winning all five games were a composite team of Simon Staples and Addie Hall from Rotorua with Trevor Eccles and Con O’Reilly from the Waihou Indoor Bowls Club.
Second was another composite team of Kevin Boothby of Waihi Beach RSA, Lynda and John Van den Broek of the St Joseph’s Indoor Bowls Club, Matamata and Laraine Osbourn of the Whangamata Club Indoor Bowls adjunct. Kevin’s team had four wins and 26 ends.
Third place went to the Kereone team of Jeff Davie, Frank Bonenkamp, Jo Cunningham and Keryn Fisher. This team had four wins and 24 ends.
Best local team and fourth overall was Alex Steel’s team of Alex, Stephen Hodgson, Jenny Harpur and Marilyn Steel with four wins and 21 ends.
A great day enjoyed by all attendees with new teams entering from the Howick Club in Auckland and players from Rotorua as well as visitors from Te Awamutu RSA, Manurewa Cosmpolitan Club and Mercury Bay Club along with the local and Thames Valley indoor bowls clubs.

2024 National Women's Indoor Bowls Tournament

Eight ladies from the Whangamata Club went to Invercargill to represent the Club in the Women's Nationals. Singles were played on the first day with five of the eight ladies qualifying for post-section play. Two of the ladies were knocked out in the round of 32 with Peg Jones the best of the ladies being knocked out in the round of 16.
In the pairs two teams qualified, Ann Costar and Lynda Callaghan being knocked out in the round of 32 with Ellen McSkimming and Cynthia Colville being knocked out in the round of 16. Both teams only losing by 1 point in games that could have gone either way.
In the triples, due to sickness with one of our players, two teams had pool players.
The team of Peg Jones, Ann Costar and Joy O’Sullivan qualified and got a bye into the round of 16 but were unable to go any further losing by 2 points.

In the fours both of our teams qualified. The team of Ellen McSkimming, Cynthia Clolville, Ngaire Wallace, and Hazel Johnstone was knocked out in the first round and the team of Peg Jones, Ann Costar, Joy O’Sullivan, and Lynda Callaghan were knocked out in the round of 8.
​
Overall our ladies represented us well and came out 12th of 31 teams entered on the aggregate.
